Attack during Azad Kashmir road clearance operation, Rangers personnel martyred, one injured
Muzaffarabad – One Rangers officer was martyred and another seriously injured when armed men of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee group fired on law enforcement personnel during a road clearance operation in Azad Kashmir.
According to reports, snipers of the group opened fire on the security personnel during the clearance operation to reopen the Sarasava Tarrakhel road.
Rangers Sepoy Shah Nawaz was shot in the chest and succumbed to his injuries while Lance Naik Bilal was seriously injured by a bullet in the shoulder.
According to the report, Shaheed Sepoy Shah Nawaz belonged to Khairpur Sindh.
The clearance operation was launched after strong demands from local residents to reopen the blocked roads amid severe transportation difficulties and shortages of food and other essential goods.
The security personnel came under attack when operations were being carried out to restore access to areas affected by road closures.
Experts termed the armed group’s use of advanced weapons and explosives against security personnel as a form of planned terrorism.
He said that the sacrifices of the security forces underscore the need to ensure and protect the state’s writ, calling for prompt, strict and indiscriminate legal action against armed groups involved in attacks on state institutions.
