LAHORE – The wedding of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Captain Safdar’s daughter Mah Noor Safdar has attracted renewed attention after a luxury necklace reportedly worth up to $15 million became one of the most talked about details of the ceremony.
The necklace seen on Mahnoor is said to be the material Le Soleil, a high-jewellery creation centered around an extraordinary 62.34 carat fancy intense yellow diamond. Based on current exchange rates, the reported value of the necklace alone is around Rs 3.3 billion to Rs 4.2 billion, making the piece of jewelery one of the most eye-catching luxury items associated with a high-profile wedding.
Maud’s creation features a cushion-cut yellow diamond surrounded by a brilliant halo of white diamonds. The centerpiece is an intricate diamond collar decorated with floral and marquise-shaped clusters, which give the necklace its distinctive look. The piece belongs to luxury jeweler Mowad’s Le Soleil high jewelery collection and is reportedly part of a larger matching jewelery suite.
The complete suit includes a necklace, a bracelet, a ring and a pair of earrings, with the entire set valued at around $42 million.
Maryam Nawaz had earlier hinted at her daughter’s upcoming marriage when she was asked in the UK if Mahnoor was planning to enter politics. Instead of talking about his daughter’s political career, Chief Minister Punjab asked people to pray for her good fortune.
Mahnoor is now married to Azaan Jabbar, son of industrialist Jabbar Khalid, a major milestone for the Sharif family.
For the wedding, Mahnoor appeared in a soft ivory dress complemented by shimmering pink makeup, while a necklace of reported material became a major talking point due to its unusual diamond and eye-watering estimated price.
The reported figures have also sparked a wave of debate online, with social media users focusing heavily on the gap between the multi-billion rupee value of the jewelery and Pakistan’s wider economic challenges.
