Elon Musk cheers Pakistan for ‘non-mercy’ verdict in Motorway Gang Rape case.

ISLAMABAD – The motorway gang-rape case set a precedent in Pakistan’s legal response to heinous crimes of sexual assault against women, with the recent verdict drawing global attention once again. The decision was echoed on international platforms after technology pioneer and world’s richest man Elon Musk publicly praised the decision, sparking a wider debate about justice and accountability in such cases.

A major international storm erupted on social media after billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk publicly reacted to Pakistan’s verdict in a high-profile motorway gang rape case, praising the country’s judiciary in a statement that quickly went viral.

The controversy began when British MP Rupert Lowe shared the news on X, calling a recent Pakistani court ruling “some good news coming out of Pakistan.”

The Tesla chief replied: “Bravo Pakistan! This is what we should be doing in the West.” The comment immediately sparked a global debate on social media platforms, with users divided over his stance on justice, punishment and the legal system.

The case in question arises out of the shocking 2020 motorway gang-rape in Pakistan, one of the country’s most widely reported and most disturbing criminal incidents in recent years.

This week, the Lahore High Court upheld the death sentences of convicts Abid Malhi and Shafqat Baga, rejecting their appeals and upholding the earlier verdict issued by the Anti-Terrorism Court. The convicts had argued that the prosecution’s case was inconsistent and failed to meet legal standards, urging the court to quash their convictions. However, state prosecutors strongly contested these claims, insisting that the evidence, particularly the forensic and DNA results, was solid and conclusive.

The LHC upheld the original verdict, upholding the death sentences first handed down in March 2021, with additional penalties including life imprisonment.

This case is on September 9, 2020, when a woman of Pakistani origin living in France was traveling with her children on the Sialkot-Lahore Motorway. According to prosecution accounts, her vehicle ran out of fuel, trapping her.

Investigators later said he was forced out of the vehicle and assaulted, with DNA and forensic analysis playing a key role in identifying and convicting the suspects.
