Maryam Nawaz says that Punjab is more at risk of terrorism from neighboring provinces.

LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Saturday that the province faces more security threats from neighboring provinces than neighboring countries, warning that terrorism is entering Punjab from across provincial borders.

Addressing an Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology event in Lahore, the Chief Minister said that Punjab faces security threats from all its provincial borders, while stressing that the province remained secure despite the challenges.

He said that since his government came to power in 2024, the law and order situation has improved significantly. However, he identified organized crime and religious intolerance as major challenges facing the province.

Referring to groups that allegedly exploit religion for political purposes, Maryam said some organizations spread hatred “under the guise of religion” while, in fact, operating as political parties.

He said that unlike the atmosphere of religious polarization a few years ago, now religious events are being held peacefully.

Describing Punjab as the most AI-enabled province in the country, the Chief Minister said that his government has invested billions of rupees in technology and security measures to strengthen the province and protect its people.

Maryam recalled that when he took office, he realized that terrorists had access to more advanced technology than the government, including night vision cameras, and were carrying out attacks through carefully planned operations.

“Thank God, now we have a complete system,” he said.

He added that the security cameras were made bulletproof after the terrorists targeted them. Thermal cameras and drones have also been deployed at check points and joint checkpoints in an effort to enhance security and protect citizens.
