Nadra’s vaccination certificate system for Umrah pilgrims has ended in Karachi.
KARACHI – The National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) system used to issue digital vaccination certificates to Umrah pilgrims in Karachi is reportedly experiencing disruptions, causing worry and anxiety among travelers preparing for the journey.
According to reports, the system outage has disrupted the issuance of vaccination certificates, forcing officials to issue the documents manually. Pilgrims whose flights are scheduled for today or tomorrow are being given priority so that they can complete the necessary formalities on time, an official said.
The digital vaccination requirement for Umrah pilgrims traveling from Karachi Airport applies to vaccines including polio, meningitis, yellow fever and influenza.
According to Dr. Syed Murtaza Shah Bukhari, Focal Person of Border Health Services, Federal Airport Health Department, Umrah passengers departing from Karachi will face travel restrictions from September 14 if they do not have a NADRA vaccination certificate. Federal Government Civil Dispensary has been designated as the authorized center for vaccination.
He advised Umrah pilgrims to get vaccination certificate from an authorized vaccination center of NADRA before travel.
The vaccination requirement is initially being enforced for passengers traveling from Karachi, while similar restrictions are expected to be introduced later at airports in Peshawar, Islamabad and Lahore.
Dr. Bukhari said that awareness notices have been issued to airlines and travel agents and they will be responsible for informing passengers about vaccination requirements. Airlines will also not issue boarding cards to passengers without vaccination certificates.
Officials have advised passengers without certificates to reach Karachi airport at least six hours before departure. Health counters have been arranged at the point of departure to facilitate vaccination.
