Pakistani mountaineer Asma Mushtaq died during her expedition to Spantak Peak.
Gilgit – Pakistani mountaineer and travel blogger Asma Mushtaq died during an expedition to the 7,027-meter peak Spantak in Pakistan’s Karakoram mountain range.
Born on February 7, 1992, Mushtaq was known in the mountaineering community for his passion for adventure, mountains and natural scenery. She recently joined an expedition to climb the Spantik.
Reports said that Mushtaq successfully reached the summit with his guide Ali Akbar and was reportedly in good health at the time. However, he is said to have developed symptoms of altitude sickness while descending from the peak.
His guide administered first aid but Mushtaq could not survive.
Karakoram Calling Tracks is reportedly liaising with the authorities concerned and assisting in the recovery and repatriation of his body.
The news of Mushtaq’s death has sent a wave of grief on social media. Users expressed their condolences to his family, remembered his love for mountains, beaches and natural scenery and prayed for his forgiveness and high status in the hereafter.
His death is a tragic reminder of the dangers climbers face even after successfully reaching the top of a mountain, especially during descents at high altitudes.
