‘Stop the obsession with women’s clothes’: Hina Parvez hits back at Falak Shabir
LAHORE – Member of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) in Punjab Assembly and Chairperson of Punjab Women Protection Authority Hina Parvez Butt has reacted to the recent demand of singer Falk Shabbir to introduce dress code in public places.
The debate started when Falak Shabbir shared an Instagram story praising the Punjab government’s decision to ban vaping in the province. While appreciating the initiative, he urged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to consider introducing dress code in public places.
In his post, the singer wrote that while the ban on vaping was a positive step, as a father of two daughters he wanted to make a humble plea for legislation on “revealing clothes” in public places, markets and streets. He argued that such measures are necessary to protect cultural values.
Responding to X’s remarks, Hina Parvez Butt criticized the singer’s comments, questioning why people continue to focus on women’s clothing choices.

“I don’t know when people like Falak Shabir will stop obsessing over what women wear,” he wrote, adding that talking about women’s clothing during visits to cities like Istanbul is not a public issue, while in Pakistan people often use social media to comment on the issue.
The PML-N lawmaker further argued that such attitudes are a hindrance to social progress and urged people to focus on their responsibilities instead of policing the personal choices of others.
The exchange has sparked debate on social media, with users debating issues related to personal freedom, cultural values and the role of government regulation in public life.
