The brave woman turned her personal tragedy into a story of courage and determination, and proudly received a commission as an officer in the force her husband served in.
After graduating from the Pakistan Naval Academy with the prestigious Commandant’s Gold Medal, the wife of Lt. Commander Hamza Abid (Shaheed) joined the Information Technology Branch of the Pakistan Navy, marking an inspiring new chapter in her life.

Speaking after her commissioning, Alvira said her husband’s martyrdom was the driving force behind her decision to don the navy uniform. “After accepting the martyrdom of my husband, Lt Commander Hamza Abid, I was inspired to join the Pakistan Navy, as he proudly wore, wearing the same uniform and standing where he once stood, is a very proud moment for both me and my daughter.”
He described his training at the Pakistan Naval Academy as an unforgettable journey and said that it was impossible to put into words the emotions he felt on receiving his commission. Alveera also gave a heartfelt message encouraging women across Pakistan to pursue a career in the armed forces.
“If I find the courage to join the forces while raising my daughter, every girl in Pakistan can do it. I encourage young women to go ahead and serve the nation.”
Her journey from the grief of losing her husband to proudly donning the Pakistan Navy uniform is a strong testament to resilience, patriotism and perseverance.
