Person impersonating National Assembly officer arrested in Karachi
KARACHI – A Grade 17 officer of the National Assembly Secretariat was arrested for using fake documents and falsely claiming official position.
According to the spokesman of the National Assembly, the accused was identified as Abdul Waheed, a resident of Ghotki, who disguised himself as a government official and pretended to be an employee of the National Assembly Secretariat.
The spokesperson said that the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested the accused after it was found that he was in possession of a forged appointment letter bearing the forged signatures of the Speaker of the National Assembly.
Officials further alleged that the individual was being given undue privileges and protocol benefits by posing as a government official.
The matter came to light after public complaints and reports circulating on social media, on which immediate action was taken by the Speaker.
The National Assembly Secretariat clarified that the accused has nothing to do with the institution and there is no official record of his appointment. He asserted that forging documents in the name of the Speaker or any government office is a serious criminal offence.
Officials have urged the public to be vigilant against impersonators and verify any official documents related to the National Assembly Secretariat before accepting them as authentic.
