Following the US attacks, Iran attacked US military bases in the region.
TEHRAN – Iran has claimed it has launched a series of retaliatory military operations against US military assets in the region following US attacks on targets inside southern Iran.
In a statement issued from Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters, military officials said Tehran had targeted several US bases in the region in response to US aggression. Iranian officials did not provide details on the extent of the damage but said the actions were aimed in direct response to recent US military strikes.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the US strikes damaged a telecommunications tower in Sirk and destroyed two water storage tanks. The force also claimed to have carried out a drone strike against the US Fifth Fleet stationed in Bahrain and warned that any continuation of US military action would be met with a strong response.
According to Russian media reports, Iran has also claimed to have shot down an American MQ-9 drone in Jam area. In addition, Iranian media reported that the Revolutionary Guards had launched missile attacks on the US Al-Azraq military base in Jordan.
Four targets were hit at the facility, including shelters used for F-35 fighter jets and a command and control center, Iranian officials said. The operation reportedly involved long-range missiles.
The IRGC also claimed responsibility for the drone attack on the Ali al-Sallam Air Base in Kuwait. However, the Kuwaiti military said its air defense system was successfully repelling hostile threats.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticized the latest actions of the United States, saying that Washington is challenging Iran despite its failures on the battlefield.
In a post on social media platform X, Araqchi warned the US to withdraw from the region if it wants to avoid further conflict. He said that Iran’s armed forces will not leave any attack or threat unanswered and stressed that the country’s army is ready to respond to any future action.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also said that the history of the Persian Gulf has many examples of defeat to external powers after military intervention in the region.
Earlier, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it had completed its defensive strikes against Iran on June 9 at the direction of the commander in chief in response to yesterday’s downing of a US military Apache helicopter.
CENTCOM forces targeted Iranian air defenses, ground control stations and surveillance radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz with precision munitions from US Air Force and Navy fighter jets. The operation was a proportionate response to recent attacks on US forces and international merchant ships in territorial waters.
US forces remain alert and ready to defend against unprovoked Iranian aggression.
