Clash between Rawalkot Azad Jammu and Kashmir Police and Joint Public Action Committee, 7 people killed, many injured
Rawalkot – Tension in Rawalkot erupted into deadly violence as clashes between police and members of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) left scores dead and dozens injured, forcing authorities to consider imposing a curfew and launching a major crackdown on the group.
Police personnel and a civilian were killed in the clash, while more than 20 police and security personnel were injured during the fierce clashes. Authorities alleged that gunmen, gathered under a protest banner, opened fire on law enforcement officials, sparking violent clashes.
The growing unrest raised serious security concerns across the region, with DC Rawalkot formally recommending a curfew to restore order and prevent further violence.

Azad Kashmir police have sealed the headquarters of the outlawed Joint Awami Action Committee, which the government describes as an organized subversive network. After the deadly incidents, security agencies and district authorities have stepped up operations against the group.
Authorities claim the violence was pre-planned, and alleged that armed elements infiltrated the protests and launched coordinated attacks on police and security personnel. This incident is one of the most serious law and order challenges facing the region in recent months.
Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry accused the Joint Action Committee of trying to derail the democratic process in Azad Kashmir. He said that the Legislative Assembly had completed its constitutional term and alleged that efforts were being made to spoil the atmosphere required for free and fair elections.
He said that the government has already accepted most of the demands of the committee. He highlighted that the residents of Azad Kashmir are getting electricity at a heavily subsidized rate of Rs 3 per unit, while the subsidy on flour and other essential commodities continues.
Chaudhry further revealed that the Prime Minister had earlier set up a committee to negotiate with the Action Committee and claimed that all provisions of the resulting agreement had been implemented. A monitoring body was also formed to ensure compliance with the commitments made during these negotiations.
