Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi contacted Field Marshal Asim Munir and other world leaders amid fresh ME tensions
ISLAMABAD/TEHRAN – Amid tensions in the Middle East and fears of a wider conflict, Pakistan has continued its backdoor diplomacy and diplomatic phones are ringing in world capitals.
After Naqvi’s recent visit, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi reached out to Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and several world leaders for urgent talks as the region experiences one of its most volatile moments in recent months.
As fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East grow, Iran has stepped up its diplomatic engagement with regional and global partners, including Pakistan, in an effort to navigate the rapidly evolving security situation.
According to Iranian media reports, Araqchi and the top Pakistani general discussed the latest developments in the region. The contact comes at a time when tensions have risen sharply following recent hostilities between Israel and Iran, raising concerns about the potential impact on regional stability.
Diplomatic channels have become increasingly active as governments try to assess the situation and prevent further escalation. Along with his talks with COAS Munir, Ardachi also interacted with foreign ministers of Turkey, UK, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and France.
During the conversation, he informed the counterparts about Tehran’s position regarding the recent events and reiterated Iran’s position regarding the protection of its national interests.
The latest diplomatic exchange followed Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s visit to Tehran, where he conveyed the message of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir to the Iranian leadership and Foreign Minister Araqchi. The meetings focused on regional developments, ongoing negotiations between the US and Iran, and efforts to de-escalate tensions through diplomacy.
He also hoped that continuous communication between regional stakeholders would help create space for dialogue and peaceful resolution of the crisis.
Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Baqir Ghalib, took a harsher tone, criticizing the United States and warning against policies it says have fueled instability in the region. He said that Tehran will continue to defend its interests and respond to actions that it considers a threat.
After the latest attacks by the US and Iran, the tension in the Gulf increased.
