ISLAMABAD – Sajjad Haider Khan has appointed the new spokesman of the Foreign Office in place of Tahir Hussain Andrabi.
The transfer was formally announced during Andrabi’s final press briefing, where the outgoing spokesman introduced Khan to reporters and handed over the responsibilities of one of Pakistan’s most closely watched diplomatic posts.
Sajjad Khan brings an extensive diplomatic career at a time when Pakistan is facing an increasingly complex regional and international landscape.
Khan is currently serving as Director General South Asia and will now also be responsible for representing the Foreign Office to the media, explaining Islamabad’s foreign policy stance and answering questions on key international developments.
His diplomatic profile includes assignments in Pakistan missions in Damascus, Budapest, Berlin and Jakarta, giving him exposure to diverse political, strategic and diplomatic environments.
Khan received his Masters degree in Political Science from Punjab University, Lahore. His experience was further enhanced by a five-year stint as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Belarus from 2020 to 2025.
His multilingual skills are also expected to be an asset in his new role. Khan speaks Urdu, English, Arabic and Balti, while he also has a good command of German, Indonesian and Russian.
As Sajjad Haider Khan takes over the Foreign Office, his predecessor Tahir Hussain Andrabi is preparing for another big diplomatic responsibility.
In his last interaction with reporters as spokesperson, Andrabi confirmed that he will now take over as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva.
Andrabi expressed confidence in Khan’s abilities and hoped that his successor would effectively lead the media wing of the Foreign Office and take forward its communications responsibilities.
Khan’s appointment comes at a particularly critical time for Pakistan’s foreign policy, with Islamabad juggling sensitive regional developments, international diplomatic pressure and rapidly evolving geopolitical dynamics.
As the public face of the Foreign Office, Khan will be tasked with presenting Pakistan’s official position on issues ranging from regional security and bilateral relations to key international developments.
His extensive overseas experience, South Asia portfolio, diplomatic background and command of multiple languages give the new spokesperson a strong diplomatic profile as he steps into the spotlight.
