Pakistan Army vowed to take decisive action against attempts to create unrest like May 9.
RAWALPINDI – The 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference reviewed the security situation in Pakistan and resolved to maintain a high level of operational readiness, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
According to ISPR, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir presided over the conference at General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi.
The Forum offered Fatiha for the martyrs of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and civil society who laid down their lives in the service of the country and paid tribute to their sacrifices.
According to ISPR, the commanders reaffirmed Pakistan’s right to self-defence and take targeted action against terrorism originating in Afghanistan.
The forum said the Taliban leadership in Afghanistan would be responsible for the consequences of facilitating terrorism, which it described as the support provided by India.
The commanders praised intelligence-led counter-terrorism operations by law enforcement agencies but stressed that security measures must be complemented by non-mobility measures.
ISPR said these measures include people-centric governance at the grassroots level, greater engagement with the public, dismantling of terrorist and criminal nexus allegedly operating on the backs of vested interests, and strengthening of police capacity under the National Action Plan and Vijhan-e-Azam Isthikam.
The forum also stressed the importance of maintaining internal stability and decided that any attempt to create unrest or create a May 9-like situation, regardless of the pretext, would be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law.
The commanders welcomed the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, saying it would further strengthen the long-standing strategic and collective defense ties.
The forum also condemned the Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, expressed solidarity with the kingdom and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the security and sanctity of the Holy Haram.
On Kashmir, the Forum reiterated Pakistan’s stated position on India’s Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and support for a resolution of the conflict in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
In his closing remarks, Field Marshal Asim Munir praised the operational readiness and professionalism of the military formations.
He directed commanders to continue to strengthen intelligence-led operations and improve warfighting capabilities through advanced technology, better training and multi-domain integration.
ISPR said that the COAS and CDF expressed confidence that the armed forces are ready to protect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security of Pakistan with the support of the nation.
