Sahiwal police officers face action for giving heroic farewell to SHO suspended in sexual assault case
SAHIWAL – Sahiwal police officials are facing disciplinary action after giving a valiant farewell to the suspended SHO, who was removed from duty for alleged misconduct in a sexual assault case.
Clips of an unusual send-off went viral online, showing the suspended officer being showered with rose petals, prompting immediate action from the district police chief.

Scenes reported from Harappa police station, where associates of suspended SHO Majid Ashfaq allegedly organized a farewell reception on August 28, just a day after District Police Officer (DPO) Usman Tipu removed him from duty.
The suspended SHO was facing departmental action for alleged botched investigation, bribery and abuse of power in the sexual assault case. However, instead of keeping a distance, his colleagues reportedly gathered at the police station, bid him farewell and showered him with rose petals.
A clip of the gathering later went viral, prompting the district police leadership to face an unprecedented crisis of discipline. DPO Usman Tipu gave a quick response and suspended nine officials who participated in the event. Those facing action include sub-inspector Imran, ASIs Khalid Naeem, Gulzar Ahmed and Nadeem Iqbal, head constables Naeem Khan and Nisar Ahmed and constables Mudassar Liaquat, Mubasher Parvez and Muhammad Akhtar.
A woman constable allegedly escaped disciplinary action for not attending a farewell. The suspension order termed the conduct of the officials as reflecting the incompetence, disorder and behavior of members of a disciplined force.
Speaking about the action, DPO Tipu stressed that police officials are expected to maintain discipline and accountability, adding that no one will be allowed to engage in unprofessional conduct or ignore orders issued by senior officers.
The farewell controversy comes in the backdrop of a serious sexual assault case that had already put SHO Majid Ashfaq under investigation. The case involves a Harappa woman who was allegedly blackmailed by a former male acquaintance.
According to the allegations, the suspect had first approached the woman when she was staying in Lahore to prepare for a competitive exam. He allegedly lured her with promises of marriage and later used private videos to blackmail her. Eventually the woman returned to Harappa and entered into an arranged marriage with a man from Chak 56/GD Modine.
Allegedly, the blackmail continued even after her marriage. The accused was accused of withdrawing gold jewelery worth Rs 15 lakh, as well as Rs 40 thousand in cash and money for the daily expenses of the vehicle.
The allegations escalated on August 19 when the accused allegedly tried to sexually assault the woman near Sahiwal Bypass. Her husband reportedly intervened, nabbed the accused and handed him over to the Harappa police.
A case of rape was registered against the accused on August 21. However, the investigation soon became controversial after the victim’s family accused SHO Majid Ashfaq of taking money from the accused. The complaint reached DPO Usman Tipu who ordered a fresh investigation into the matter.
The re-investigation allegedly revealed irregularities in the handling of the case and alleged misuse of official powers by the SHO. The accused also allegedly admitted that the SHO was paid a substantial amount to get leniency. After these results, DPO Tipu suspended Majid Ashfaq on August 27 and started departmental proceedings against him.
What happened the next day added another twist to the controversy. Instead of quietly leaving the station after his suspension, the SHO reportedly bid farewell to colleagues at the same police station where he served. The rose petal shower and farewell gathering were captured on mobile phone video and later streamed online.
The footage prompted the DPO to take action against the policemen involved, apparently intended as a farewell to the Harappa police station in a fresh disciplinary scandal.
