The Iraqi scholar says that the CPC’s power is rooted in its focus on the people.
BAGHDAD – The enduring power of the Communist Party of China (CPC) stems from its steadfast commitment to putting the people first, a principle that has transformed China from a poor nation to the world’s second-largest economy, according to an Iraqi political scholar.
In an interview with Xinhua ahead of the CPC’s 105th founding day on July 1, Kawa Mahmoud, president of the Iraq-based Global Civilization Initiative Research Center, emphasized that the party’s greatest asset has always been its dedication to public service.
“From the beginning, the CPC represented the aspirations of the Chinese people,” Mahmood said. “Despite its small size at the beginning, it carried great historical responsibilities, including resisting foreign aggression, protecting national independence, and striving for national renewal.”
Mahmoud, who previously served as the secretary general of the Central Committee of the Kurdistan Communist Party of Iraq, praised the CPC’s ability to continuously innovate in both theory and practice, keeping in close touch with public needs.
He noted that the party has developed a distinct governance model characterized by strong links between the leadership and the people, effective grassroots communication and active public participation.
According to Mahmood, China’s political and social stability has laid a solid foundation for its rapid development, while independent policy-making has enabled leaders to prioritize public welfare.
He said that China’s development model is unique in its national context. “However, his approach encourages other countries to respect their circumstances, pursue independent development strategies and put people’s welfare first.”
He emphasized that Chinese modernization has moved beyond physical infrastructure to focus primarily on human development.
“This includes poverty alleviation, environmental protection, and both material and spiritual improvement,” Mahmood explained.
He added that CPC’s people-oriented philosophy distinguishes it from development models that focus primarily on economic development.
“For the CPC, development is not measured by economic indicators alone, but by tangible improvements in people’s lives.” This contrasts with models that primarily benefit economic elites in some Western countries, he said.
Looking ahead, Mehmood expressed confidence that the CPC will continue to guide China’s national renewal while providing valuable insights to the international community.
