Tik Tok Live will be banned in Pakistan for vulgar content?
LAHORE – TikTok Live has gathered huge audience in Pakistan due to its light to moderate content. However, the platform has also come under increasing scrutiny as concerns grow over the proliferation of explicit content, the influence of monetization on content creation and the accessibility of such content to minors.
These ongoing issues have fueled fresh speculation about possible regulatory action against TikTok LIVE. A viral claim circulating on social media suggests that the Pakistani government is considering banning TikTok LIVE and its monetization features, with reports alleging that authorities may direct local banks to stop processing TikTok payments.
Muslim League (N) MLA Hina Parvez Butt also shared a recent post saying “Make as much money as you can on Tik Tok Live by spreading shamelessness. God forbid the filth these people spread on Tik Tok Live, unfortunately these people are the heroes of our children and youth; now everyone wants to make a lot of money overnight on social media. They do harm, but the most toxic are family bloggers and tiktok.” There are talk live streamers who are spoiling our kids.

If implemented, such a move would effectively suspend the income of thousands of Pakistani content creators. Officials are concerned that TikTok’s live giveaway and monetization system encourages users, especially young creators, to quickly produce flashy or sensational content in pursuit of greater audience engagement and financial rewards. The posts further state that the content is easily accessible to minors and may negatively affect the social and cultural values of Pakistan.
Concerns about inappropriate content on TikTok are nothing new. Pakistan has previously taken strict action against the platform, including a temporary ban in 2020, for the presence of content deemed “immoral” or “immoral”. Officials have repeatedly urged TikTok to improve its content moderation practices.
Similarly, criticism of LIVE-stream monetization is not unique to Pakistan. Around the world, policymakers and child protection advocates have questioned whether virtual giveaways and creator payments encourage dangerous, exploitative, or inappropriate behavior in an effort to maximize earnings.
Despite the widespread circulation of these claims, there has been no official statement from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirming the federal government’s plans to ban TikTok LIVE or banks to stop payments to creators.
